Retrieving deleted files on Google Drive

Previously, I described how you can retrieve earlier versions of a file on Google Drive if you realise you need to roll back for any reason. But what if you’ve already deleted the file you want to roll back to? Well, again, subject to policy and space availability, Google Drive may well allow you to retrieve an archived version of a deleted file too.

  1. View your Google Drive trash can in a web browser (https://drive.google.com/drive/trash).
  2. Right-click the file you want to retrieve, and select Restore from the menu that appears.
  3. In the confirmation message that appears saying the file was restored, click Locate to open the folder the file was restored to.
